v3.1 Beta 1, released October 14, 2008 This is the third development milestone and first beta release of Firefox 3.1, the upcoming version of the Firefox web browser. Please read below for more information.
About this Beta
I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 'Intel,' TenFourFox doesn't help with that. Whenever I load Firefox it tells me to upgrade to 12.0 for security reasons. 12.0 is most definitely not compatible with the version of OS X on my MacBook Pro. Download Mozilla Firefox Beta for Mac. Experience the newest innovations in an unstable environment that’s not for the faint of heart.
Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 is the third development milestone and first beta release of Firefox 3.1, the upcoming version of the Firefox web browser. While the release is stable, it is intended for Web developers and members of our testing community for early evaluation and feedback. Users of the latest released version of Firefox should not expect their add-ons to work properly with this beta.
Check out what’s new, the known issues and frequently asked questions about the latest version of Firefox. As always, you’re encouraged to tell us what you think, either using this feedback form or by filing a bug in Bugzilla.
What’s New in Firefox 3.1 Beta 1
Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 is based on the Gecko 1.9.1 rendering platform, which has been under development for the past 6 months. Gecko 1.9.1 is an incremental release on the previous version with significant changes to improve web compatibility, performance, and ease of use:
- Web standards improvements in the Gecko layout engine
- Added support for CSS 2.1 and CSS 3 properties
- A new tab-switching shortcut that shows previews of the tab you're switching to
- Improved control over the Smart Location Bar using special characters to restrict your search
- Support for new web technologies such as the <video> and <audio> elements, the W3C Geolocation API, JavaScript query selectors, web worker threads, SVG transforms and offline applications. More information.
System Requirements
Before installing, make sure your computer meets the system requirements.
Downloading
Mozilla provides Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X in a variety of languages. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 here. For builds for other systems and languages not provided by Mozilla.org, see the Contributed Builds section at the end of this document.

You can remove Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 through the Control Panel in the Start Menu on Windows, by removing the Firefox application on OS X, or by removing the firefox folder on Linux.
Removing Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 won’t remove your bookmarks, web browsing history, extensions or other add-ons. This data is stored in your profile folder, which is located in one of the following locations depending on your operating system:
Windows Vista | Users<UserName>AppDataRoamingMozillaFirefox |
Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 | Documents and Settings<UserName>Application DataMozillaFirefox |

When you install Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 all of your Extensions and Themes will be disabled until Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 determines that either a) they are compatible with the Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible.
Known Issues
This list covers some of the known problems with Firefox 3.1 Beta 1. Please read this before reporting any new bugs.
- Certain client certificates will fail to install when downloaded from a CA (see bug 453227)
- The “Feed” tab is not present in the page info window (see bug 458579)
- Preferences set using the page info window do not work properly (see bug 459157)
- In some cases, the migration dialog will not launch after successfully installing Firefox for the first time (see bug 459082)
- On PPC Macs, viewing a Ogg video, displayed in a <video> tag, causes a hang (see bug 452698)
- Long pages can render incorrectly (see bug 447690)
Troubleshooting
- Poorly designed or incompatible extensions can cause problems with your browser, including make it crash, slow down page display, etc. If you encounter strange problems relating to parts of the browser no longer working, the browser not starting, windows with strange or distorted appearance, degraded performance, etc, you may be suffering from Extension or Theme trouble. Restart the browser in Safe Mode. On Windows, start using the 'Safe Mode' shortcut created in your Start menu or by running
firefox.exe -safe-mode
. On Linux, start with./firefox -safe-mode
and on Mac OS X, run:When started in Safe Mode all extensions are disabled and the Default theme is used. Disable the Extension/Theme that is causing trouble and then start normally.cd /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/
./firefox-bin -safe-mode - If you uninstall an extension that is installed with your user profile (i.e. you installed it from a Web page) and then wish to install it for all user profiles using the -install-global-extension command line flag, you must restart the browser once to cleanse the profile extensions datasource of traces of that extension before installing with the switch. If you do not do this you may end up with a jammed entry in the Extensions list and will be unable to install the extension globally.
- If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, window placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, it is recommended that you try creating a new profile and attempting to reproduce the problem before filing bugs. Create a new profile by running Firefox with the -P command line argument, choose the 'Manage Profiles' button and then choose 'Create Profile..'. Migrate your settings files (Bookmarks, Saved Passwords, etc) over one by one, checking each time to see if the problems resurface. If you do find a particular profile data file is causing a problem, file a bug and attach the file.

Other Resources and Links
The following resources contain useful information about Firefox 3.1 Beta 1:
- SafeBrowsing Service Privacy Policy (for anti-phishing/anti-malware feature)
https://juiwiv.weebly.com/skype-614-mac-download.html. We built Safari to be the best browser for your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Built-in privacy features keep your browsing your business. You can stream and search smarter with handy tools that help you save, find, and share your favorite sites. Apple Pay in Safari lets you shop safely and simply. Safari for Mac is faster and more energy efficient than other browsers. And thanks to iCloud, Safari works seamlessly with all your devices.
Defending your online privacy and security.
Privacy and security aren’t just something you should hope for — they’re something you should expect. That’s why features to help protect your privacy and keep your Mac secure are built into Safari.
Intelligent Tracking Prevention.
Remember when you looked at that green mountain bike online? And then saw annoying green mountain bike ads everywhere you browsed? Safari uses machine learning to identify advertisers and others who track your online behavior, and removes the cross‑site tracking data they leave behind. So your browsing stays your business. And Safari keeps embedded content such as Like buttons, Share buttons, and comment widgets from tracking you without your permission. We know you’ll like that.

Sandboxing. Built-in protection for websites.
Sandboxing provides a safeguard against malicious code and malware by restricting what websites can do. And because Safari runs web pages in separate processes, any harmful code you come across in one page is confined to a single browser tab, so it can’t crash the whole browser or access your data.
Fingerprinting defense.
When you’re online, the characteristics of your device can be used by advertisers to create a “fingerprint” to follow you. Safari thwarts this by only sharing a simplified system profile, making it more difficult for data companies to identify and track you.
Protection from harmful sites.
Safari helps protect you against fraudulent websites and those that harbor malware — before you visit them. If a website looks suspicious, Safari prevents it from loading and warns you.
Private Browsing.
When you use Private Browsing, Safari doesn’t remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your AutoFill information. You can also use DuckDuckGo, a built-in search engine that doesn’t track you, to make your web searches private, too.
More secure and convenient passwords.
Firefox 1.0.2 Download
Safari works hard to make sure your passwords are robust and unique by automatically creating and storing strong passwords for you. Once stored, your passwords will autofill in websites across all your Apple devices and in apps on iOS and iPadOS devices. In Safari preferences, passwords that have been used more than once are flagged so you can easily update them. And one-time security codes sent over SMS are autofilled right in the password field as soon as they appear in Messages. Security has never been so user friendly.
Surf seamlessly across all your devices.
Not only does Safari come on every Mac, it comes on all your iOS and iPadOS devices. And thanks to iCloud, your passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs, and Reading List are always up to date no matter which device you’re using.
iCloud Keychain securely stores your user names, passwords, and credit card numbers and keeps them up to date on your trusted devices. So you can easily sign in to your favorite websites — as well as in apps on iOS and iPadOS — and quickly make online purchases. And everything is protected with robust 256-bit AES encryption.
With Bookmarks in Safari, your favorite sites are always close at hand. Bookmark a web page on your Mac, and it automatically appears on all your iCloud-connected devices.
With Tab view, the last websites you had open on your Mac are available in Safari on your iOS and iPadOS devices — and vice versa. So you can go from one device to another without having to search for the web pages you were reading.
Save web pages you want to read later simply by adding them to your Reading List. Then view them on any of your iCloud-connected devices — even if you’re not connected to the internet.
The fastest way to browse on a Mac. And faster than any Windows browser, too.
With a blazing-fast JavaScript engine, Safari is the world’s fastest desktop browser, outperforming both Mac and PC browsers in benchmark after benchmark on the same Mac.1

So you can watch videos while you browse photos. Or catch up on your favorite show while you catch up on email.
With Spotlight built into every Mac, you’re never far from the information you want. As you type in the Smart Search field, you’ll see Safari suggestions from sources like Wikipedia, news sites, Maps, movie listings, flight status, weather, stocks, and sports.3
